Danny Johnson says he is slightly disappointed with just 10 goals this season as he got his side back in front against AFC Wimbledon on Saturday.

The striker enjoyed another goal to make it two for the week and 10 for the season as he rounded Dons keep Nik Tzanev to slot home his 10th of the season.

He said: “I was a bit worried when the ball got played in, it hit my thigh and bounced backwards, but I managed to get my body out of the way and saw with the keeper coming out there would be a tap in, I’m delighted to see the ball hit the back of the net.”

Johnson has enjoyed a fantastic start to the season since being loaned to the saddlers by fellow league two side Mansfield and says he’s delighted but feels he could have more.

The Mansfield loanee added: “I am delighted, but me being me I’m probably disappointed with 10!

“There is a few chances where I probably should of scored in previous weeks which might have got us a few more points, but I’m happy to get 10 goals and long may it continue.”

The Middlesbrough born forward knows very well how to score goals in League two having hit 17 goals in his final season at Leyton Orient back in 2020/21

Danny says he has been checking how he matches that season and feels it’s good confidence to see and knows he can score goals in the division.

He said: “I made a joke this week to my dad to see where I was at compared to my (Leyton) orient year, and I was pretty level to what I was at Orient.

It’s good confidence. I know when I play games, I can score goals in this league, so I am delighted to back that up.”

There is some worry of Johnsons future stay at the Poundland Bescot Stadium, The Walsall striker is only on loan until January and could be kept at Mansfield after January. Johnson does feel it’s strange but says he doesn’t want to think about it too much.

He added: “It’s a bit of a strange one for me. I’m trying not to think about it because my focus is on scoring goals at this moment in time.

“When it comes to that time (January) it will all get dealt with so for me I’m taking my mind off that because I don’t want to be thinking about what might not might not happen.”
